Reflection on 'Derek Sivers: How to start a movement'

Well, after watching the video, my perspective on a leader and their followers changed a lot. We always give all the credit to the leader, the one started everything from scratch, yet the followers were always seen as people just believed in and were confident in putting their trust in such leaders. After watching the video, my view of them changed entirely, seeing them in a whole new light.

Like what Derek Sivers said "The first follower transforms a lone nut into a leader. If the leader is the flint, the first follower is the spark that makes the fire." Only with the first follower can the movement really happen. The first follower plays a great part. Like mentioned previously, the first follower puts his trust on the leader. That is what matters and changes the lone nut into the leader. It is this brave move, and belief of the first follower, makes the leader, the leader. The leader is now able to lead and move forward, as he or she now has a follower. A follower shows that the leader is doing something worthy of noticing, something that is of value, and shows others how to follow.

Derek Sivers also mentioned that the second follower is a turning point, as it means that first follower is doing well, and the second follower is then willing to join in. Slowly and slowly, if the leader is leading and progressing in the right direction, more and more followers join in. The fact that there are followers is a concrete proof that the leader has succeeded. The followers are the once who make the movement a movement, they are the ones who make the leader a leader. They are the ones who get the momentum going, because a lone nut cannot function. This is all due to them having no fear in being ridiculed by others because of the movement he is in, their act of bravery is what led to success of many movements.
